12. Scalability

I touched on it in the Tweet (4) about Specialisation but there is a need to be really clear about scalability of any betting you do. You may be happy to beat some of the softer markets in the smaller sports. However, that will only get you so far before restrictions hit you.

If you want to do this longer term you have to concentrate on being able to beat markets where you can get larger sums of money down. The reality is that this will be at lower edges but hopefully higher volume. This is not easy to do.

It is much better to be able to place £1m of bets at a 1% edge than it is £100k at 5% edge. (£10k vs £5k exp profits). The problem with those sorts of sums, is that, it almost has to be on exchanges. The situation is complicated further by the presence of Premium Charges.

The reality is that you have to factor in Premium Charges into any strategy to scale up. I have found that the lower margin higher volume strategies work much better if trying to negate the impact of Premium Charges.

You just have to accept you are likely to pay 40%+ of any profits in commission and Premium Charges. Adjust your strategies accordingly.
