6. Record Keeping

I have seen this discussed a lot recently on Twitter and it really divides opinions. If you are doing this for a living, keeping notes and a record of all bets placed feels like a prerequisite. It ensures accountability.

Those records can be as detailed or as brief as you require. They are an incredibly good way to spot where your strengths and weaknesses lie. Obviously variance can play a huge part and that has to be taken into account.

It shouldn’t just be on the sports you are really good at. It should be every single bet or market (if trading or laying). Those small interest bets can really add up and not in a good way!

One of the greatest bettors of our generation (Harabolis Voulgaris) was recently asked what his one piece of advice would be for aspiring punters. He said ‘be honest with yourself and stripping yourself of delusions. The key to it is accurate records’. I could not be delusional of my success because I had the P/L tab and that would tell me how I was doing at all times. To me data is the answer. You don’t have to have a ton of it but keep a track of all your bets and also state of mind etc’.
