21. Banking

One thing you have to be very careful with, if you have large numbers of betting transactions, is the bank accounts/banking facilities you use. Just be very aware that it is highly likely at some stage your bank account will be closed.

No reason will be given. There will be no warnings. Overnight you will have your bank account closed. There must be something that flags up on their algorithms that they don’t like. You have to make sure you have alternatives in place in case this happens.
This becomes an even bigger issue if you use the same bank account for your day to day transactions. Open up another bank account as a back up for emergencies.

I had banked with HSBC for over 20 years when I got a letter from them telling me they were closing my bank accounts. No reasons. Luckily I had back up options. I would say 80% of the people I know who have done this for a living have had a main high street bank account closed.

Just be careful with other payment methods as well. Skrill who I used to use a lot but don’t anymore, decided to effectively confiscate my balance because it had ‘gambling transactions’ to friends. It made no sense as it is not illegal in the UK. Skrill is also expensive.

My favourite at the moment is Paypal who are very reasonable. It does help though that there are not transactions to lots of different companies (what happens when accounts are shut!). It is just to and from exchanges.

Just be super careful and I would work on the assumption your bank account will be closed without warning at some stage. Don’t say you weren’t warned..
