I see so many people particularly in the early stages of their betting journeys bemoan the size of their bankroll. If only I had a bigger bankroll I would have this game by the absolutes. Or my bankroll isnt big enough to make it pay. If you have a genuine edge it is amazing how quickly that bankroll will grow from relatively small sums. Yes you maybe leaving money on the table by not having a bigger bankroll. However, you have to earn the right to that bigger bankroll by being successful.
Now it may be that the strategy you have doesn’t work with your current bankroll. That’s life. Don’t bemoan the situation. Find a different strategy. Adapt. It is just so important that you are placing bets that are appropriately sized for whatever your bankroll is. Maybe you have to reduce your variance. Play on fewer markets where you have a bigger edge. It doesn’t matter what it is. Just try and remove the greed and desire for the big win. Understand that the small wins can add up very quickly if you have an edge.
Variance may have caused your bankroll to be decimated. It can be incredibly tough, mentally, to reduce the stakes you are playing at. If every bet you were placing was for £5k and suddenly it is £100. It’s a very tough adjustment. However, it is no one else’s fault but your own. You probably didn’t appreciate how impactful variance can be. Or you don’t have the edge you thought. You can either moan about the situation or you can get back to grinding away to get yourself back to the previous levels.
There are a couple of legitimate scenarios where a bigger bankroll might make a difference. The ability to get a certain rebate or lower commission rates. That type of thing. This applies to so few though.
If you cant make it pay using smaller stakes then it is incredibly unlikely you will suddenly make it pay at the bigger stakes. If you are good enough to make a long term profit in this game the size of your bankroll won’t be the thing holding you back.
