One of the most interesting aspects to the last tweet I did about Stale Prices (147) was the feedback. I always appreciate feedback on the tweets whether good or bad. Whether I have misunderstood something or am just plain wrong about something. Just my opinion.
The two interesting pieces of feedback were as follows;
‘It’s not a good thread it’s mostly absolute nonsense’.
The other was;
‘Great thread Luke’.
Now where it gets interesting is the roles that these two people have within the industry. On the one hand you have someone who has been a Trading and Operations Director at multiple large European based Sportsbooks. On the other you have the Sportsbook Operations Manager at one of the sharpest US Sportsbooks. I think it probably just highlights the differences between the European bookmaking model and the ‘sharp’ sportsbook model. They are literally poles apart in their beliefs as to what works and what doesn’t. It doesn’t mean either is necessarily right or wrong.
It’s why I enjoy Twitter as you can delve down further and find out, why people you respect, have the opinions that they do. People are always willing to engage in interesting conversations. It can be a great learning experience.
I have talked previously about the importance of keeping an open mind and also not being in an echo chamber. Never be afraid though to back your own opinions and thoughts. Everyone is coming at these topics with a different hat on and with different motivations.
