100. Losing Mentality

The biggest thing holding back so many punters is that they simply have a losing mentality. They expect to rock up, place a few bets and potentially win money. It doesn’t happen in any other walk of life so why would it happen in betting?

Like so many things in life you get out what you put in. I think the thing that blows my mind so much, is how little effort people make, to even try and improve their skill set and betting prowess. They want the easy option. They want the golden money tree. They want to be able to follow some newspaper tipster and make fortunes. They always want to try and take the quick and easy way to make money. Life and particularly betting just isn’t like that. It’s a brutal game. People don’t give themselves a chance to succeed.

To be involved in the game for many years and have success you need far more. I despair that someone like the Racing Blogger has 76k followers listening to his utterings. Racing is fine and understandable but betting advice…. Its insane. They get what they deserve.  He is not alone though. You can take any of the big media personalities in the game. None of them are making the game pay from their betting. They are selling a dream of potential profit to unsuspecting, uninformed and frankly clueless punters. They will have the odd winner and everyone will think they are a genius/expert. I find it genuinely amazing that people cannot see it for what it is. Stop taking the advice of people who don’t do this for a living.  Stop being lazy and looking for easy wins. Put the same time and effort into trying to be successful that you would any other hobby.

Someone wouldn’t expect a 20 handicap golfer to break par just because John (a 12 handicapper) gave them a little swing tip in the car park. You may make a par/bogey on the first but it will catch up with you very quickly and pretty brutally.  If you aren’t willing to put the time and effort in to improve, you will get what you deserve. A pretty miserable time betting and losing plenty of money. Do you know what is fun? Winning consistently at betting. Knowing you are getting one over others.

I have said before that there are so many resources out there to help people improve. I may be biased but these 100 tweets are a decent starting point to improving. There is something in them for everyone. I have had many experienced pros send me messages. Saying things like I didn’t know that happened or that was the case. That makes sense now. That there was an angle that they haven’t thought about. I have received information back about things that I didn’t know either. There is so much to learn in this game. There are so many different ways to approach it, to try and be successful.

I challenge anyone to read all 100 tweets and not find something in there that could potentially help them. If you can then you probably have the game by the balls. Its partly why I get frustrated that the bigger media betting personalities wont share these tweets with their followers. Maybe their egos are a bit precious. Maybe they don’t want the general public to realise some of the truths in this game.  Whatever else their followers would learn something. It may not even be something from me. It maybe a podcast I have recommended or to follow a different Twitter account. We have to strive to help people become better punters.

I like this quote as it sums up the situation quite nicely. “Winners make the effort whilst losers make excuses”. It honestly pains me to see how many uninformed punters there are out there just throwing away hard earned money to the unscrupulous bookies.

I hope these 100 tweets have helped a few. Thank you to everyone who has liked, shared and retweeted tweets. I will continue with more as there are still plenty of topics left to discuss.
