| One thing you have to be aware of in this game is all the special offers that bookmakers will use to try and incentivise new players to their site or to keep them. There has been some great examples recently with Skybet, Bet365 and their football markets. They have been running promotions recently where it involves players doing things like having one shot on target. On Saturday it was Harry Kane to have one shot on target at evens. Customers were allowed £10 at evens. On the first weekend of the season it was Salah against Fulham. That’s great if you have a few accounts but for most people access to accounts have been long gone. Where it becomes interesting is how that then completely distorts the equivalent markets on Betfair. Skybet had Kane priced up at 1/10 (1.1) to have a shot on target. Now that price feels very short but even if the true price was something like 1/4 (1.25) it is fascinating to see what happens on Betfair. For Kane on Saturday the price was at about 1.48 for significant sums of money. It is because a lot of people are hedging their free bets onto Betfair. It just shows that if you are on the ball you can get some great value bets on the exchanges because of the promotions that the bookies are offering. I cant see the promotion lasting long as it must be costing them fortunes. |
