10. Tipsters (1)

Tipsters are the absolute bane of a pro punters existence. There is nothing worse than being ready to go all guns blazing on the golf only for Ben Coley or Dave Tindall to tip it up on a Monday night. The problem is that they have been very successful in their field and have a large number of followers. The other problem is that on a Monday evening liquidity is poor on the exchanges and the bookie limits are small.

Let’s fast forward to the Malaysian Open 2018. I knew I wanted to back Sharma on this course a few weeks earlier. Price dependant. Thought it was so perfect for him. Opens at 80+. Perfect. I had been nibbling away at 90 on BF when disaster happens. Coley has tipped him up at 80/1. The price goes on BF. And with the bookies. It’s only going to get worse. I hit a few online accounts that I had access to but obv couldn’t get to any shops.

All plans out of the window. I thought it would be an interesting situation to try something. I stuck up a huge bet of over £14k at 75 on Sharma. Ended up having to go lower. I was working on the basis that if i got even 10% of that I would be happy.

If it was all matched so be it. Steve Palmer ended up tipping him up as well at 50/1 on the Wednesday. Ended up getting about £1499 matched in total on BF. It gives a good example of how difficult tipsters can make this game. FWIW he won by two after a final rd 62.

It was very funny reading comments saying people just following Ben or pros always find a way to get on. Just not that simple. Tough to know the true situation. Getting on is as hard as finding an edge.
