75. Don’t fall in love with even

This relates to chasing losses, which we have touched on before. I thought this phrase from Barry Greenstein was so apt and just sums it up beautifully. Very powerful. It can apply to any form of betting whether it be sports betting, poker, casinos, DFS etc.

The phrase is simply saying don’t become obsessed with getting back to even on a session. That session maybe a day/tournament/meeting. It can be anything. If you end up chasing even though, you are likely to place a lot of -EV bets in the process, which will not end well.
Not only that but there is a good chance any staking plan goes out of the window. If it does all go pear-shaped and it will at some point chasing even, then you have the problem of not chasing back the previous sessions losses as well. Gets messy very quickly.

I know I have certainly been guilty of chasing even in the past and I think very few wont have done this at some stage. Just take whatever the betting gods give you on any given session. Every bet counts and there are always other opportunities. Don’t fall in love with even.
