55. Being asked for tips

One of the more tiring things in this game is being constantly asked for tips. This week is a good example ahead of the USPGA Championship. Who will win? Who do you fancy? Can I have some bigger price picks for this week?

I have no real objection to sharing the information to friends because I know its not going to impact prices or in all likelihood my ability to get on. The problem is that you are on an absolute hiding to nothing.

If the bets win, it is expected because this is what you do for a living. For all those other weeks where you have losers you feel both guilty and know that you are being judged/questioned. That’s more so than ever on a sport like golf where variance is so high.
My favourite part though is when someone comes back and tells you that they have done their research and confidently tell you who they have backed. Such a simple game. God help you if they stumble over the winner who was third favourite.
